- Feeling listless, clogged up, lacking in energy?
- Noticing that your skin and eyes are looking tired?
- Worried about your weight and the effect it might have on your heart?
Regular juicing can help you with all of these issues and many more.
Our modern Western ‘convenience’ diets are creating an epidemic of health problems. In the past 30 years the West has experienced soaring rates of diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
Countless studies have drawn the link between excessive consumption of meat, refined and processed foods and these kinds of health problems.
The solution, we are told, is to increase our consumption of vegetables and fruit, reduce our intake of meat and take more exercise.
Whether you can motivate yourself to eat less meat – certainly less processed meat – is an issue for you to decide. There’s certainly plenty of evidence to suggest that eating less meat is the way forward.
Exercising more is certainly something most of us should aim to do. But busy lives mean we can’t always make the time to do as much as we’d like .
Eating, however, is something we seem to find plenty of time to do.
That being so, if we can add healthy juices and smoothies to our mealtimes or even have those drinks replace some of those meals – we can go a long way to improving our overall health.
Eating vegetables and fruit vs juices and smoothies
How many vegetables should I eat and how much fruit? Certainly more than you’re eating now if you’re the average person.
How many of us, however, could find either the time or the tolerance to consume five carrots, four apples, a handful of spinach and a few florets of broccoli – in one sitting?
Kinda difficult (if not impossible) but somewhat time-consuming and frankly hard work.
Take the same component vegetables and fruit and put them into a juicer or smoothie-maker, however, and you gain almost all of the same benefits of eating the raw articles – in a fraction of the time and in a format much easier for the body to digest.
Worried that the resulting juice or smoothie is going to taste weird – don’t be: you’ll be surprised by how moreish and delicious many of the juices and smoothies you’ll find on this website are.
OK – some of them may look weird!
Juicing - the benefits of raw
Vegetables and fruits provide many essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
It’s important to understand that these nutritional benefits are at their most potent when these foods are consumed raw. In some instances it would be ideal to eat the foods in question raw and in their whole form.
However, we’ve established that’s sometime difficult to do with vegetables in particular.
Juicing and blending fruit and vegetables enables us to take the whole raw food and consume it in a convenient way without losing any – or hardly any – of its pristine power.
For some pointers on the individual nutritional benefits of fruit and vegetables take a look at our Food Benefits section.
