A member of the Rose family, along with apricots, peaches, strawberries, plums and raspberries (amongst others), the blackberry is a tart fruit usually cultivated in the summer months in the Northern hemisphere.
Boasting high levels of vitamin C and anthocyanins (powerful antioxidants) the humble blackberry has gained a reputation as something of a superfood in recent times.
Contrary to what you might think, blackberries because of their delicate nature and their expense, are really more suited to smoothies than direct juicing.
Most of the 'juice' recipes featuring blackberries will consist of freshly extracted juices being mixed with blackberries - and other similar soft berries - to create a smoothie.
Bought at the store or supermarket, blackberries are somehwat expensive but remember they're often available at 'pick-your-own' farms.
Even better they're often found growing wild on scrub land and other seemingly unfavourable environments - pick them for free as long as they are on public land!
